WELCOME TO MY PAGE
I have been training with Johnsons for nearly 8 years now and currently hold a 4th Dan qualification in the
art of Tang Soo Do. From the moment I joined the club my ambition was to gain my first Degree Black Belt.
Once I became a Dan Grade in 2001 I set myself an even bigger goal, I wanted to become a Master Grade.
I recently achieved my aim in July of last year, having given every ounce of effort I had. This was the biggest
achievement of my life, I had put years of hard work, sweat (and tears!) into my training, yet I know that this
is not the end, I still have an endless journey ahead of me and plenty more goals to pursue.
I began training to improve my fitness, my self confidence and to gain some knowledge in how to defend myself
should the situation ever arise - I became instantly addicted. The Organisation has grown immensely since I
started and I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have had one to one tuition with Master Johnson and
Master Rachel Johnson from the beginning. It is because of this that I have never looked back, it really does
become of way of life.
My favourite aspects of Tang Soo Do are the Forms and self defence techniques that we learn. Another favourite
of mine is pad work, we do this as it is essential to make contact with an object and this gives us the opportunity
to do so. I also thrive on learning new skills. I started teaching classes about five years ago, just before I
gained my First Dan. Having stood in and taught on behalf of various Instructors during their absence, I have
now decided to open my own Clubs.
During my time in Johnsons I have experienced the benefits of practice, patience and perseverance together with
the self confidence and belief that you can do anything that you want to. All of Johnsons Karate students are
testiments to this.
I always encourage my Students to try their best, I believe that if you struggle with something don't give up
but try harder and eventually you will achieve it. It is amazing what you can do when you push yourself beyond
your comfort zone and you will feel better for it to. Master Johnson once said that 'Tang Soo Do is made up of
70% perspiration and 30% inspiration'.
As in life, any martial art is a learning curve, full of peaks and troughs. The key to success is to never,
ever give up!
